Tomas Dolby will release his first new album in nearly 20 years – “A Map of the Floating City” . Abum features appearances by special guest artists Mark Knopfler, Regina Spektor, Natalie MacMaster, Bruce Woolley and Imogen Heap.
Leading up to the full-length, Dolby will release three digital-only EPs containing three or four songs apiece exclusively for signed-up members of his online fan community, The Flat Earth Society. The first EP, Amerikana, will be available June 12 exclusively to signed-up members of The Flat Earth Society at www.thomasdolby.com. It includes the songs “Road to Reno,” “The Toad Lickers” and “17 Hills,” featuring Knopfler and MacMaster.

The album features interpretations of the classic songs that made him a vital cultural icon including “By The Time I Get To Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman,” “Galveston,” “The Highwayman,” “Oklahoma Nights” and more.

It’s ten years since the first Sunday for Sammy show was staged at Newcastle City Hall to celebrate the life of Geordie actor Sammy Johnson following his sudden death in 1998. Since then the bi-annual show has gained legendary status and the cast list has featured the cream of North East stage, screen and musical talent. The 2010 show featured on this DVD thrilled the sell-out audience once again and surpassed all previous productions. (more…)

The last Dire Straits vinyl reissue – Love Over Gold (cat. nbr. 093624969693) will be released by Warner Bros. on May 25, 2010. As well as all 2009-2010 previous vinyl reissues (Dire Straits debut, Communuque and Making Movies) Love Over Gold was mastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analogue tapes and pressed on 180 gram audiophile quality vinyl.
The album is available for pre-order at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de.

The third Dire Straits vinyl reissue – Making Movies is confirmed by Warner Bros. The reissue (cat. nbr. 093624969716) is scheduled for April 20, 2010.
The album (as well as first Dire Straits album and Communique) was mastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analogue tapes and pressed on 180 gram audiophile quality vinyl. The album is available for pre-order at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de.
The last vinyl reissue – Love Over Gold is expected to be released in May 2010.

Universal Music announced the details of Alchemy – Dire Straits Live re-release. The re-release will include 3 versions: DVD (cat. nbr.0602527336305), Blu-Ray (cat. nbr.0602527336312) and DVD + 2 CD deluxe edition (cat. nbr. 0602527336299). The release date: May 03 – 07, 2010.
Previously the Alchemy – Dire Straits Live album (recorded live at at Hammersmith Odeon in London) was released on LP and CD in 1983, and on VHS in 1984. Now, the picture and sound have been digitally remastered in high definition (DVD & Blu-Ray) and 5.1 surround sound (DTS & DTS HD Master). The original tapes was remixed by Mark’s co-pilot Chuck Ainlay.
