Two-time Grammy Award winner and one of contemporary jazz’s leading vocalists, Diane Schuur, has signed with Vanguard Records. She will be releasing her label debut, The Gathering, on June 7th. With a distinguished career that spans nearly three decades, Schuur’s new album is unique in both material and style, and features special guests Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Mark Knopfler, Larry Carlton and Kirk Whalum.
The Gathering is a collection of 10 classic country songs, mostly written during the golden era of the 1960s, and is the first time Schuur has featured this genre of music. On selections like Willie Nelson’s “Healing Hands of Time” (feat. Mark Knopfler), Roger Miller’s “When Two Worlds Collide,” Merle Haggard’s “Today I Started Loving You Again” and Tammy Wynette’s “Til I Can Make It on My Own,” Schuur’s great vocal versatility shines through.
Mark Knopfler is one of the most successful musicians in the world. During the past thirty years he has written and recorded over three hundred songs including some of the most famous in popular music.
In this in-depth documentary he talks about how these songs have defined him and how they have been influenced by his own life and roots. It features previously unseen photographs from his personal collection and comprehensive footage spanning his career from a struggling musician playing in pubs in Leeds in the 1970s, to the record-breaking success with Dire Straits and his current world tour as a solo artist.
Looking back over the 25 years since he wrote the iconic Brothers In Arms album, the film takes an affectionate look at how this formidable creative man has operated as a musician for three decades and how he continues to do so today as a solo artist who is as much in demand as ever.
Following the highly acclaimed Wisdom, Andrew Zuckerman now turns his unique photographic perspective to music. This new book includes fifty eminent musicians—artists, composers, producers, and performers from rock, rap, dance, soul, R&B, classical, country, reggae, pop, jazz, world, and more—who have made an impact on their genre, contributed to the larger conversation, and have a unique perspective on life.
Each musician is photographed and interviewed on film about the process of making music, the power of music, and the experience of writing, producing, and performing. The group includes emerging artists, as well as legends from a variety of genres, and together, they create a distinctive understanding of the universal language of music.
Music features new portraits of and interviews with Clint Black, Dave Brubeck, Common, Billy Corgan, David Crosby, Ani DiFranco, Danny Elfman, Ben Gibbard, Philip Glass, Herbie Hancock, Karen O, Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Jerry, Ziggy Marley, Ozzy Osbourne, Yoko Ono, Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins, Ravi Shankar, John Williams, Mark Knopfler and several other international music icons.
One of Britain’s most popular and legendary artists, guitarist Mark Knopfler’s work over more than 30 years has created a fanbase crossing generations and geography. This year alone, Mark has completed an 82-date world tour and won yet more critical acclaim for Get Lucky, his seventh solo album to date.
This film in the Legends series traces the roots and inspirations for many of Mark’s most endearing songs, some of the most recognisable tracks in the world of popular music.
Covering his days with Dire Straits up to his most recent work as a solo artist, it investigates Knopfler’s motivations as a songwriter rather than as the ultimate rock star.
Combining exclusively shot interviews, new performances and archive, this film explores the personal story of one of Britain’s most iconic artists. It also revisits Mark’s childhood, hearing how he has drawn on his early upbringing in Glasgow and Newcastle, and his travels around the world, for lyrical and musical inspiration.
