Mark Knopfler

After Live in 85/6 tour Mark retired from Dire Straits. In 1987, Mark took part in charity concert The Secret Policeman's Third Ball in London. In the same year, Mark took part in AOL Sessions with Chet Atkins in Nashville.

In 1986 and 1988 Mark and John Illsley played for the Prince's Trust concerts at Wembley Arena with Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Tina Turner. Both concerts are available on the official videos: Prince's Trust Gala 1 (1986) and Prince's Trust Gala 3 (1988).

In 1988, after two gigs to fan club at Hammersmith Odeon, Dire Straits (with Eric Clapton instead of Jack Sonni), performed 7 song set to the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute concert at Wembley Stadium in June 11, 1988. The show was broadcasted on TV. Full Dire Straits set can be found on bootlegs. In 1989 Dire Straits performed charity concert in Newcastle.

In 1990, after a short Notting Hillbillies tour, Mark and John Illsley (as Dire Straits) with Eric Clapton's band performed 3 songs at the Knebworth Festival benefit for Music Therapy. The set list included the previously unreleased Think I Love You Too Much. The concert was filmed and released on the double DVD pack Live at Knebworth.
